About me

My name is Sylvain Tertois, I'm 28 years old, and I work for SAFT Batteries. Before that I was a PhD student at Supélec, Rennes campus. There isn't any picture of me on this site, but if you really want to see my face, you can have a look at my profile on ubix. I like scuba diving, role playing games, science fiction, electronics, and audio systems design. I used to write software for the BeOS, but I've stopped about a year ago. Unfortunately I don't have enough free time to do everything I'd like to do...

My favorite SF authors are Isaac Asimov (the Robots cycle, the Foundation cycle), Frank herbert (Dune) and Arthur C. Clarke (2001, Venus Prims, Rama).

My PhD was about telecomunications, and more precisely about reducing the effets of non linearities in a multicarrier transmission (mainly OFDM) using neural networks. The OFDM modulation is currently widely used in digital communications, as much on cable (xDSL) as on radio waves (HiperLAN II networks, or maybe the fourth generation of cellular phones, after UMTS). Today I design the electronics embedded in Lithium-Ion batteries we manufacture in Poitiers, France with our MP cells. These batteries need electronics to make them safer and protect the cells and the users from misuse. I also design monitoring circuits that can predict the remaining capacity, to build "smart batteries" that can communicate with the system or the charger connected to them.
